Marine Land Development & Flood Defence Works

As a team MGL Contractors boasts extensive and diverse heavy civil engineering experience and expertise, including in Marine Land Development & Flood Defence Works. We have recently undertaken several major Flood Defence projects including significant Rock Armour and Core Bulk Fill on Marine Land Development.

Examples of our successfully completed Flood Defence works include at the Technip Spoolbase in Evanton, Scotland where as the resident civil engineering team we carried out new capex and maintenance works on the coastal site consisting of 450,000 m3 of bulk earthworks and 200,000 tonnes of crushed and processed rock as part of the expansion of the rock armour causeway.

We have also constructed a 550m long Rock Armour Revetment at Invergordon Service Base; and a major extension to the runway at Ronaldsway Airport on the Isle of Man, which included the quarrying of the core fill material and then primary and secondary rock armour construction.

Our team also managed numerous river diversions, culverts and bridge crossings on the major Glendoe Hydro Scheme, culminating in the construction of the 990m long, 32m high Dam Embankment which took 1.5m tonnes of extracted and processed rock fill.

Most recently, as MGL Contractors, we constructed a new two stage flood mitigation channel to protect SSE’s Tealing Substation in Tayside, with a project value for MGL Contractors of £2-2.5m.
